The Cost of War in Michigan

Photo Gallery
People stand among 178 pairs of military boots, November 15, 2009, at Edgewood United Church of Christ in East Lansing, Michigan. The boots represent the number of Michigan military service men and women who have died in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The display is part of a national event sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee and is called Eyes Wide Open: The Cost of War to Michigan. The first boots exhibit opened in Chicago in January 2004, and it has been traveling around the United States ever since. It will next appear in Melbourne, Florida, on November 28.
