Noor Alam, an Afghan boy who was killed in a September 4 airstrike in Kunduz province, is seen in a picture placed on display during a press conference in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Wednesday, December 16, 2009. The NATO airstrike, which killed an estimated 142 people, was called in by a German commander. The incident increased the already widespread sentiment among Germans that their troops should be withdrawn from Afghanistan, and it led to the resignation of Germany's defense minister, Franz Josef Jung. Karim Popal, an Afghan-German lawyer working with the relatives of victims of the strike, said he is negotiating with German officials to compensate them with cash payments or through land, farm equipment or projects for the area.
