U.S. Government Spends almost $1 Billion a Year on Advertising
Saturday, March 24, 2012
Advertising is a billion-dollar investment for the U.S. government, which ranks in the top 10 of biggest spenders on marketing campaigns.
In 2010, federal agencies spent $945 million on ad contracts. More than half of this total was allocated by the Department of Defense for its recruiting efforts.
The nearly $1 billion Washington paid for ads made it the seventh largest advertiser in the nation.
At the top of the list were Proctor & Gamble ($2.3 billion), AT&T ($1.5 billion), General Motors ($1.49 billion), Verizon ($1.41 billion), News Corp ($984 million) and Johnson & Johnson ($950 million).
