Politicians from New York State want to rename the post office in Monroe and dedicate it to a fallen Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer.
A graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School and the State University of New York at Binghamton, Wenzel was a lawyer before 9/11 inspired him to join the CIA.
He was a member of the first post-September 11 training class, and was sent to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2002.
Wenzel died in the Ethiopian capital on July 9, 2003. But the CIA did not publicly acknowledge his death for six years, when his name was added in 2009 to a memorial at CIA headquarters that honors officers who have died in service of their country.
