Tim and Mary Katharine Gann of Cleveland, Tennessee, are suing the restaurant chain Steak’n Shake for serving their son Caleb a bowl of chili mixed with Blair’s Mega Death Hot Sauce. Caleb’s parents claim their son suffered a “severe physical reaction” to the chili that included hives, difficulty breathing and pain and inflammation of his digestive system, that forced them to rush him to a nearby hospital. They also allege their waiter substituted the restaurant’s regular hot sauce with Blair’s, which is supposed to be “500 times hotter than a jalapeño” and contains habañero, cayenne and chipotle chiles. The Ganns are seeking at least $60,000 in compensatory and punitive damages.
