Sen. Johanns Defends Appearance at Republican Event in 2006
Monday, January 31, 2011
Sen. Mike Johanns
In a recent report, the Office of Special Counsel accused Mike Johanns, then Secretary of Agriculture and now a senator from Nebraska, of attending a November 1, 2006, Arizona Republican Party Photo Opportunity and Reception with Senator John Kyl at the Phoenix Country Club and claiming that it was an official, non-political event.
Sen. Johanns has provided AllGov with a copy of a letter from Branden Forsgren of the Department of Agriculture (USDA) to the Arizona Republican Party, dated November 17, 2006, requesting that the Party reimburse the USDA $303.03 for the portion of Johanns’ trip to Arizona that related to this appearance.
