Iran’s Next Defense Minister Wanted by Interpol for “Crimes against Life and Health”

Ahmad Vahidi

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has earned the scorn of critics both inside and outside of Iran for selecting Ahmad Vahidi as the country’s next defense minister. Vahidi has been accused by Interpol of participating in the 1994 bombing of a Jewish cultural center in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Vahidi’s involvement stemmed from being in charge of Iran’s secret Quds Force, an arm of the Revolutionary Guards that carries out missions overseas, during the time of the attack. He is one of five Iranians listed by Interpol for “conceiving, planning, financing and executing” the ‘94 attack that killed 85 people and wounded hundreds. Interpol’s wanted notice on Vahidi says he is sought in connection with “crimes against life and health, hooliganism, vandalism and damage.”
