Here Comes the Corporate Campaign Money…Target Goes Republican

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

With the U.S. Supreme Court’s removal of a 60-year-old restriction on corporate political donations, companies are coming out in support of the Republican favorite for the Minnesota governor’s race.

Retailer Target has contributed $150,000 to MN Forward, a GOP-oriented campaign fund supported by other businesses like Best Buy, Polaris, Hubbard Broadcasting and Davisco Foods. MN Forward has been running TV ads supporting Republican Tom Emmer, a conservative who opposes gay marriage and praises Arizona’s strict immigration law.

Target’s support for Emmer contrasts with the company’s moderate image in Minnesota, where it has supported the Twin Cities Gay Pride Festival among its other outreach efforts.

I was much upset by the Supreme Court's irresponsible decision which is now showing up in what will become a massive distortion of our political process. It is disturbing to learn of Target's contribution as well as those of Best Buy, Polaris, Hubbard Broadcasting (that is no surprise!) and Davisco Foods. I will stop shopping at Target unless they reverse the policy of favoring a particular political party.
