Bush Administration Spied on Planned Parenthood
Tuesday, March 02, 2010

The Department of Defense under President George W. Bush carried out illegal spying on numerous American organizations, including Planned Parenthood. This revelation surfaced after the Electronic Freedom Foundation received more than 800 heavily-redacted pages of intelligence oversight reports as a result of filing a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit. Among the documents were assessments by the Pentagon’s inspector general who characterized some of the intelligence gathering as “unlawful.”
The spying on Planned Parenthood took place in 2002 as part of security planning for the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. The government apparently targeted the family-planning clinic because of its “involvement in protests and literature distribution,” according to the documents.
