Louis Harold Joseph has served as Haiti’s Ambassador to the United States since September 14, 2010.

Joseph was born in Cap-Haïtien to parents who were both teachers. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the Faculty of Law and Economic Sciences at the State University of Haiti in 1978. He received his Master’s degree in International Public Policy from the School of Advanced International Studies at John Hopkins University in 1989.

On the advice of his study group, Joseph gained employment as a fellow at the Ministry of Trade and Industry in 1977. He headed up the Ministry’s Center for Commercial and Industrial Information as its Senior Economic Analyst from 1980 to 1982.

Joseph joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in December 1982 as Minister-Counselor in the Haiti’s embassy in Washington, D.C. He was promoted, in 1989, to Minister-Counselor for Economic Affairs in charge of Trade, became Second Secretary and, beginning in 1997, spent five years as chargé d’affaires.

In 2002, Joseph was named the Haiti’s ambassador to the Bahamas, and, as senior diplomat in Nassau, was Resident Dean of the Diplomatic Corps. He held that post until 2010.

Joseph has three children from his first marriage—Marsha, Angeline, and Louis Harold, Jr.—and a daughter, Dahlia, with his second wife, Yanique.
