Monsignor William Lynn of the Philadelphia archdiocese is about to become the first Catholic official in the U.S. to stand trial for his actions during the child sex abuse scandal that rocked churches across the country.

With jury selection scheduled to begin February 21, Lynn is charged with endangering the welfare of young men who were allegedly raped by priests and with conspiracy to cover up the abuse.

Other senior Catholic officials have been criminally charged for allegedly covering up sex abuse claims, but Lynn is the first to go to trial.

In his position as head of the archdiocese, Lynn was informed of numerous cases of young men claiming to have been sexually abused by priests. During two grand jury investigations, Lynn admitted that he allowed some allegations to “fall through the cracks” and said he was unwilling to tell local parishioners about certain allegations.

The charges against him stem from two cases involving men who say they were raped when they were 10 and 14.

lynn's current defense is that he took orders from bevilacqua to hide these child rape crimes, and last week, introduced evidence that showed that bevilacqua was even more despicable than we always thought, having shredded documents that showed that they knew about 35 pedophile priests, and they hid them. regardless, lynn is just as guilty as a mafia lieutenant who gets an order to murder someone and passes the order on to a hit man. catholics have completely lost perspective on life and christianity, now paying for the legal defense of a know pedophile protector in a proven pedophile protection program. there is no question that lynn hid these priests that were raping children. the question now is whether they can get their expensive lawyers to get him out of doing jail time. they may save one despicable monsignor, but they'll lose millions of souls as a result, as the catholic church continues to prove that it isn't god's church.

msgr. william j. lynn was dismissive when a northeast philadelphia man reported that a priest had repeatedly raped him as a teenager, attacks that took place on the priest's farm, in a church rectory, and on a trip to walt disney world. "i just thought he wanted money," lynn later told a grand jury. not long after the victim came forward, lynn told him that the accused priest, the rev. stanley gana, had denied the attacks. in fact, gana had already admitted the abuse, something lynn, as the main investigator of sexual-abuse complaints for the philadelphia archdiocese, knew but purposely kept from the priest's accuser
