Harvard Study Concludes that Fluoridated Water Is Associated with Lower IQs in Children

Tuesday, August 07, 2012
Researchers at Harvard and in China have concluded that fluoride in water may impair children’s mental development.

After examining the results of 27 Chinese-based studies, experts from the Harvard School of Public Health and China Medical University in Shenyang found evidence that fluoride may adversely affect cognitive development in children.

They determined children in areas of high-fluoride concentration areas had noticeably lower IQ scores than those who lived in low-fluoride areas. Even though the average IQ measurement was only half a point less, some studies showed that even small exposures to fluoride could be toxic to the brain, the researchers said.

They added the potential risks of fluoride exposure should be taken seriously and that more research should be conducted in this area.

forget the children. what about the seniors? fluoride is cumulative in the body, and it makes bones brittle over time. i suspect that osteoporosis, which seems to be increasingly common among the elderly, is another unintended consequence of fluoridation. there is another problem, too, in that the fluoride used in municipal drinking water is not medical grade, but captured from industrial waste and although purified, still contains traces of heavy metals.

at last we see some progress. most systematic reviews are well-regarded (although the ones produced by the pro-fluoridation cdc dental division are puny and biased) and this review by choi et al is long overdue. children's intelligence is being reduced (perhaps deliberately?) by vociferous pro-fluoridationists. fluoride is now in the food chain and not just in drinking water. therefore we're all over-dosing on the toxin which the epa has stated is a developmental neurotoxin. time for people to stand up and be counted before america is no longer capable of producing geniuses.

critics claim that the ordinary 1 ppm of fluoride used is lower than some of the studies mentioned in this article. but after 60 years of fluoride use, which gets dumped through the sewer, polluting the environment. this has saturated our food and drink to the extent that scientists report that children are consuming 2 to 4 times the fluoride dose from drinking water. this definitely puts them at risk of lower iq and bone cancer.
