Top 10 Road Projects Already Funded by Stimulus Package

Highway-happy California has benefited mightily from the federal stimulus funds dedicated for road and infrastructure projects, according to congressional data that ProPublica sifted through. Five of the top 10 projects in the country that have received money from the stimulus package are in the Golden State. Overall, though, the stimulus hasn’t produced a lot of new jobs via road projects—just 7,700 so far.

 
The top 10 highway/infrastructure projects to date are:
 
1. Oakland, CA ($192,357,000) to build a two-lane tunnel on State Route 24 between Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
 
2. Los Angeles, CA ($189,900,000) to widen the northbound High-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane on Interstate 405 from Interstate 10 to U.S. Highway 101.
 
3. San Bernardino, CA ($128,116,032) to add an HOV lane and other lanes to northbound Interstate 215 between Rialto and Massachusetts avenues.
 
4. Stuart, FL ($127,757,455) to construct Indian Street Bridge over the south fork of the St. Lucie River between Mapp Road and Kanner Highway.
 
5. Miami, FL ($87,569,810) to rebuild the interchange of the Palmetto and Dolphin expressways.
 
6. Camden County, NJ ($80,908,252) to replace bridge deck on Interstate 295 between State Route 45 and Berlin Road.
 
7. San Diego, CA ($78,336,000) to construct a new six-lane freeway, State Route 905, between Interstate 805 and the Otay Mesa border crossing.
 
8. Los Angeles, CA ($73,952,464) to repair pavement on Interstate 710 between Firestone Boulevard and Slauson Avenue.
 
9. Gadsden, AL ($73,188,097) to repair pavement on Interstate 59 between Attalla and Duck Springs.
 
10. Branford, CT ($72,616,060) to rebuild the Amtrak bridge over U.S. Route 1.
