After enduring the murders of his children by his wife in February 2007, Bouchaib Moqadem of Belgium is now being asked to pay for the prosecution of his wife, Genevieve Lhermitte. The government spent 72,743 euros ($97,000) to convict Lhermitte of killing their five children while Moqadem was visiting Morocco. Because Lhermitte has no money, officials have turned to her husband to recoup the costs by demanding that the money be taken from her half of the sale of the family’s house. Moqadem told the media he was “disgusted and revolted” by the request. His wife is now serving a life term in prison.
