2008 Democratic National Convention

Supporting Barack Obama for president is proving to be an occupational hazard. Following a Kansas salesman’s claim of being fired for voting for Obama, Julia James of New York is suing her former employer for allegedly terminating her for attending the Democratic National Convention in August 2008. James, director of quality control for DDK & Company accounting firm in New York, claims in her lawsuit that she was fired from her $200,000 a year job because the firm’s partners were displeased with her attendance at the event where Obama was officially nominated by his party. She insists she received excellent job performance evaluations prior to the firing, which the company said was due to her overuse of vacation time. At the time of her termination, James had 75 hours of unused vacation, according to her suit.
