11 Musicians Who Died at the Age of 27 (Besides Amy Winehouse)

It may seem shocking that Amy Winehouse died at the early age of 27, but in the world of music such deaths are not that unusual. Here are eleven other musicians who died when they were 27 years old.
 
1. Kurt Cobain—The lead singer of Nirvana, heroin addict Cobain shot himself to death in 1994.
2. Jimi Hendrix—Psychedelic singer-guitarist Hendrix choked on his own vomit in 1970, presumably after taking too many sleeping pills.
3. Janis Joplin—Blues-rock icon Joplin died of a heroin overdose 16 days after Hendrix.
4. Jim Morrison—The leader of the Doors, Morrison was found dead in a bathtub in Paris in 1971.
5. Robert Johnson—Influential Delta blues guitarist Johnson was poisoned, allegedly by a jealous husband, in 1938.
6. Brian Jones—One of the founders of the Rolling Stones, Jones was found dead in his swimming pool in 1969.
7. Pigpen—A founding member of the Grateful Dead, Ron “Pigpen” McKernan was addicted to alcohol and died of a gastrointestinal hemorrhage in 1973.
8. Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson—Leader of the blues-rock group Canned Heat, Wilson died of a drug overdose in 1970, a month before Janis Joplin.
9. Jesse Belvin—R&B singer and songwriter (“Earth Angel” and “Goodnight My Love”) Belvin died in a head-on collision in Arkansas in 1960.
10. Pete Ham—Leader of the Welsh group Badfinger, singer-songwriter Ham hanged himself in 1975.
11. D. Boon—Guitarist and singer for the punk rock group Minutemen, Boon died in a car accident in Arizona in 1985.
