Former U.S. Navy Captain Ray E. Davis faces an extradition order from Chile for participating in the murders of two Americans shortly after a military coup toppled the regime of President Salvador Allende in 1973.
A Chilean judge wants Davis to face trial for the killing of freelance journalist and filmmaker Charles Horman, whose disappearance inspired the Academy Award-winning 1982 movie “Missing.” Davis, whose whereabouts are unknown, is also wanted for the murder of American student Frank Teruggi.
At the time of their deaths, Davis was head of the U.S. military group attached to the American Embassy in Santiago.
Horman, who was investigating links between the Central Intelligence Agency and the Chilean military, was arrested September 17 and executed the next day, according to court documents. His body and that of Teruggi’s were later dumped in the capital’s streets.
