1. In 2009, more than 1.7 million babies or 41.0% of all births were to unmarried women. For African-American, Native American and Hispanic women, a majority of births were out-of-wedlock.
2. The birth rate for mothers between the ages of 40 and 44 jumped 32% between 1999 and 2008, reaching its highest rate since 1967.
3. In 2009, 40% of legal immigrants came from seven countries: Mexico (14.6%, China (6.0%), Philippines (5.3), India (5.1%), Dominican Republic (4.4%), Cuba (3.4%), and Vietnam (2.6%).
4. Sixty-two percent of legal immigrants lived in just six states: California, New York, Texas, Florida, Illinois, and New Jersey.
5. Fifty-seven percent of legal immigrants lived in 10 metropolitan areas, led by those centered in New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Washington D.C., Chicago and San Francisco.
