Preschoolers Learn Important Lesson at Graduation Brawl

Saturday, June 16, 2012

“Do as I say, not as I do.”

Not exactly the lesson one wants their children to learn in their early, formative years, but one the parents at Lenicia B. Weemes elementary school are no doubt hoping will stick after a brawl erupted at the Los Angeles preschool graduation ceremony.

The fight reportedly broke out between the parents when students were forced by budget cuts to share a single cap and gown. The children were returning from their graduation ceremony in the auditorium to their classroom for photographs when the altercation erupted. “This all started because my son’s teacher was so unorganized,” one of the parents wrote below a video of the incident posted on YouTube. “Basically because of budget issues all the kids had to share a cap and gown for pictures. One of the moms in the video was basically taking over and the other one didn’t like it and told her something about it.”

At least one parent received a minor injury.

School Principal Lynn Brown wrote a letter to the parents urging them to take this “opportunity to talk to children about solving conflicts the Peace First way, non-violently. Counseling is available if you or your child may need it.”
