Arturo Sarukhán was took over as Mexico’s ambassador to the United States February 27, 2007. He earned a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from El Colegio de México. Sarukhán earned a master’s degree in US foreign policy at the School of Advanced International Studies at John Hopkins University.
Sarukhán served in various posts at the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs and represented Mexico at the Organization for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean (OPANAL). He served as consul general of Mexico in New York and as chief of staff to the Secretary of Foreign Relations. He also served as the top foreign policy advisor and international spokesperson to Mexican President Felipe Calderón during the presidential campaign of February 2006-November 2006.
