Name: Cain, James
Current Position: Ambassador

A native of High Point, North Carolina, James P. Cain served as the US ambassador to Denmark from August 14, 2005, until January 23, 2009. He earned a BA and law degree from Wake Forest University. Cain practiced law in North Carolina (at Kilpatrick Stockton) for 20 years, co-founding the firm’s Research Triangle office in 1985. He became president and chief operating officer of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, as well as its parent company, Gale Force Holdings. He stepped down in 2002 after the team made it to the Stanley Cup finals.

 
Cain also served as Republican National Committeeman for North Carolina from 2003 to 2005 and as regional chairman and the state finance vice chairman for the Bush-Cheney ‘04 Campaign. He served as President Bush’s Emissary to the Philippines for the Inauguration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2004.
 
In November 2008, Cain published a book, The American: Denmark, Diplomacy and Democracy, about his years as ambassador to Denmark. All proceeds will go to the United Hearts Foundation.
 
Since 1999, Cain has donated $13,175 to Republican candidates and causes, including Mike Huckabee, Richard Burr, J.D. Hayworth, Elizabeth Dole, Brad Shuster, George W. Bush and Carolyn W. Grant, as well as the North Carolina Republican Executive Committee.
