Clyde Bishop served as ambassador to the Marshall Islands from December 5, 2006 until May 2009. Bishop received his BA in sociology from Delaware State in 1964 and a master’s in the same field from the University of Delaware in 1972. He obtained a PhD in public policy analysis from the University of Delaware in 1976.
Bishop began his diplomatic career as a Consular/Economic Officer in Palermo, Italy. He then served in Hong Kong, Bombay (India), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and South Korea. He became the Principal Officer in Naples, Italy, and just prior to his appointment as ambassador to the Marshall Islands he was Consul General at the U.S. embassy in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Bishop speaks Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese.
