India has named ICICI Bank chairman KV Kamath as the first president of the New Development Bank being set up by the BRICS countries. The $100 billion development bank will fund infrastructure projects in developing nations. This opaque collegium system is set to be modified after recent allegations of corruption by retired Justice Markandey Katju. The Judicial Appointments Commission Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday, with the proposed JAC to include the executive in the appointment of judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts. Yet it's not clear if this will provide a balance between transparency and judicial independence.   read more
