Name: Gutierrez, Carlos

A native of Havana, Cuba, Carlos Gutierrez served as Secretary of the Department of Commerce during George W. Bush’s second term.. Gutierrez studied business administration at the Monterrey Institute of Technology in Queretaro, Mexico.
 
In 1975 he joined the Kellogg Company as a sales representative. He rose up through the ranks until becoming president and chief executive officer in 1999, making him the youngest CEO in Kellogg’s nearly 100-year history. In April 2000, he was named chairman of the board of Kellogg Company.
 
Gutierrez has served as co-chair for the Commission for Assistance to a Free Cuba, giving him an active role in US-Cuba policy. He is a strong advocate of the US foreign policy that has opposed the regime of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. Gutierrez was also one of President Bush’s point men on immigration reform.
