Deportations at Record High

Just weeks before the November election, the Obama administration has announced a record number of arrests and deportations of illegal immigrants, countering attacks by Republicans that Democrats have not been tough on the immigration issue.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported 392,000 individuals in fiscal year 2010, of whom 195,000 were convicted criminals, including 64,000 who were convicted of aggravated felonies. The criminal removals represented a 70% increase over the previous year.

The overall number of deportations was less than the unofficial quota of 400,000 that ICE has set for its agents, according to The Washington Post, but it did top the George W. Bush administration record of 349,041 set in 2008.

I am glad to hear that there have been record numbers of arrests and deportations of illegal immigrants so far in 2010. However, if our Borders were MORE secure these numbers would really mean something. More needs to be done to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the US. More needs to be done to Catch, Fine and Deport the Illegal Immigrants that are in the US. At this time the need to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the US and increase the deportation numbers is economical. The US Legal Residents cannot afford the continued draining of social services being used by illegal immigrants. Many of our school systems are overcrowded due to the increase of illegal immigrant children attending.
