Arizona One of Three States to Allow Carrying Concealed Weapon without Permit

Tucson assassin used a Glock 9x19
Arizona, where accused gunman Jared Lee Loughner shot 19 people, killing six in Tucson, is one of three states in the country that allows adults to carry concealed weapons without a permit. (The others are Vermont and Alaska.) The law took effect on July 29, 2010.

The lax gun regulation first permitted individuals to carry concealed weapons into bars and restaurants, before the state expanded the law to cover a wide range of businesses and locations.

In addition, state politicians in 2010 approved the “Firearm Freedom Act” that excludes the sale of certain weapons and ammunition manufactured in Arizona from coming under federal gun registration or regulations. Arizona is one of eight states to pass the act, which is wending its way through the U.S. court system.

Arizona lawmakers are not through considering bills pushed by gun-rights advocates. The state legislature is expected to take up during its new session a proposal (HB2001) to allow faculty members to carry concealed weapons on university and community college campuses, and another (HB2014) to prevent educational institutions from keeping a person from carrying onto campus a weapon with a valid permit.

Also, the photo implies that there is such a thing as a "Glock 9x19" He used a Glock model 17. 9x19 is a size of ammunition, aka 9mm luger or 9mm para. This differentiates it from 9x18 (makarov) and 9x17 (.380acp).

Who in their right mind thinks that a law requiring a CCW would have prevented this shooting? Consider for a moment--you're a nutcase who can't tell the difference between reality and a paranoid dreamworld, you get the notion to kill people, but then BAM! You say to your insane self "I don't have a CCW, so I can't do this, darn!" Get a grip folks. And stop trying to limit/deny other people's rights based on the irresponsible/insane actions of an individual. I promise I won't do the same with yours.
